Lady has had an incredibly challenging journey, but thankfully, her story is filled with hope. Rescued from a suspected dogfighting situation by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), Lady witnessed the worst. Despite her difficult start, her rescue has given her the chance to finally live the life she deserves.
Dogfighting is a horrific form of animal abuse where dogs are bred, conditioned and trained to fight each other for the entertainment of spectators and for profit. These brutal fights can last from one to two hours, often ending only when one dog can no longer continue, resulting in severe injuries or, tragically, a drawn-out death.
HSUS assists law enforcement in regions where dogfighting is prevalent, providing investigative expertise and training to penetrate this secretive world and bring dogfighters to justice. They also lead many rescues of dogs and support the care and rehabilitation of dogs rescued during raids—dogs like Lady.
Following her rescue, Lady was transferred to us at our Canadian care and rehabilitation centre near Montreal, Qc. With the help of our team of experts, she received comprehensive rehabilitation and behavioural therapy, allowing her to heal both physically and emotionally. Lady is an incredibly social girl, motivated by attention and affection. She quickly stole the hearts of our staff, charming everyone with her playful antics and determination to impress. She would demonstrate her good behaviour to our team and demand cuddles in return.
Our team ensured that Lady stayed active and engaged throughout her rehabilitation. They took her for regular walks along our trails, allowing her to explore the outdoors and soak in new sights and scents. To keep her mentally stimulated, Lady enjoyed interactive toys and activities that challenged her mind and helped her develop essential skills.

Lady has since found her forever home with a loving woman that lives in a small municipality in Quebec. Now, she enjoys long walks in the fresh air, exploring her neighborhood, and of course, cuddling! Lady’s love for snuggles knows no bounds, she thrives on attention and is embracing her new life. She created a strong bond with her family, one that relies on love and trust, and no longer on fear and abuse as she experienced in the past.
